PROPHET JESUS (P)

PROPHET JESUS (P) IS BORN

Such is the respect and honour that is given to Mary by Allah that the chapter called Maryam in the Quran is named after her. No other woman in the history of mankind is honoured in this way.

After Mary had given birth, people were suspicious and started to accuse her of sin. The Quran reveals how the baby Jesus (p) miraculously spoke from the cradle in defence of his pious mother.

JESUS (P) A MESSENGER OF ALLAH

The narrative continues with the Quran revealing some of the miracles that were performed by Prophet Jesus (p). The miracles tended to centre around healing and curing, as people at the time placed great faith in healers. They were performed by Allah's permission as a sign to the people that Propher Jesus (p) was a true Messenger of Allah.

THE DISCIPLES

The disciples of Propher Jesus (p) declared that they were Muslims who believed in him message and would obey their Lord. However, they wanted some more proof in the form of food sent from heaven, so they could satisfy themselves that they were on the right path. So Propher Jesus (p) prayed for 'a table spread with food'.

Jesus - Prophet of Islam

Known in Quran as Eesa bin Maryam. He is regarded as a Prophet, a reformist, 'the anointed one' and the 'Spirit of Allah' who was elevated to heaven. He was born miraculously: he spoke from the cradle as a baby, cured leprosy and those born deaf and blind, raised the dead and blew life into inanimate objects - al by the Will of Allah. Muslims do not believe that he was Allah of part of a trinity or that he was crucified or that he was 'son of God'.
His high status to Muslims highlighted by the fact that the Quran mentions him by name 25 times. In comparsion Prophet Muhammad (saw) is only mentioned by name 5 times. It is not surprising for muslims as the Quran is regarded as the world of Allah. Also Mary the mother of Jesus (p) is mentioned in the Quran and chapter is named after her. Anyone who disbelieve in Jesus (p) is not muslim.
In islamic tradition the mother of Jesus (p) was unique, in that she gave birth to a son by a miracle without the intervention of any physical means. The Prophethood of Jesus (p) is described with an emphasis on the miracles performed by him. This chapter contains an account of Propher Jesus' (p) life taken from the Quran.

  • (Mention, O Muhammad) when the wife of Imran said, "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated (for Your service), so accept this from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing. "But when she delivered her, she said, "My Lord, I have delivered a famale." And Allah was most knowing of what she delivered, "And the male is not like the famale. And I have named her Mary and I seek refuge for her in You and (for) her descendants from Satan, the expelled (from the mercy of Allah)." So her Lord accepted her with good acceptance and caused her to grow in a good manner and put her in the care of Zacharias. (Quran, The Family of Imran 3:35-37)
